• Install and Update Internet Security Software, (We would recommend either Kaspersky or AVG Internet Security - Note that this is the subscription version of AVG, not the free version)
• Install an anti Spyware program, (Adaware, SpyBot, Malwarebytes)
• If you have a Windows machine check for and install Windows Updates regularly
• Periodically check for and remove unwanted programs using either 'uninstall' or 'Add/remove programs' in Control Panel
• Periodically do a disk cleanup, (Normally found in 'Programs - Accessories - System Tools)
• Followed by Disk Defragmenter (Found in the same place as the item above)
• Keep all your software for your computer in one place
• Back up your data regularly using any means possible, (External Hard Drive, CD/DVD Re-Writer, USB pen, MP3 Player, etc), and make sure they are kept in a secure place in a different building to your computer
• Fit an anti surge bar between your Electrical plug and your computer
• Keep a note of your Internet Service Provider, (ISP), settings and keep them with all your software
